Communications Director

Summary
Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish exists to make, form, and equip missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Communications Coordinator will play an essential role in moving Our Lady of Guadalupe
Parish to being able to fulfil its mission and vision. The Communications Director is directly
accountable to the Pastor or his designate.


Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develop a communications plan for the parish that includes communications to parishioners, parish staff and those in the community who are not currently parishioners.

  2. Prepare and distribute a bi-weekly e-bulletin to an internal mailing list (using Mailchimp or other contact management tool).

    • Maintain the distribution list for this publication.

  3. Be responsible for maintaining and updating the parish website and, when necessary, the design of a new website

  4. Work with existing volunteers to maintain parish visibility on existing social media channels such as YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.

  5. Prepare weekend Mass announcements.

  6. Oversee the Livestreaming of weekend liturgies and other special events, by raising up and supporting a team of volunteers.

  7. Work with the preaching team to produce graphics and promotional materials for homilies and preaching series.

  8. Handle communication requests from parish ministries and groups.

  9. Research and implement a new parish database that will be used by all staff and key volunteers to manage list of leaders, givers, those in ministry, those new to the parish, those celebrating sacraments, those on the discipleship pathway, etc.

  10. Form and support a team of volunteers willing to continue to assist with (or begin to assist with) communications such as, video editing and creation, tweeting, hosting livestream chats, hosting the digital foyer at Sunday Mass, making announcements at Mass, etc.

  11. Drive ownership of the parish vision and mission statements, and values among parish staff and parishioners.

  12. Assist with maintenance of existing office telephone system.

Qualifications

  • Displays and maintains an active spiritual life rooted in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, committed to personal prayer, and active participation in a church community and has a passion for parish renewal.

  • Demonstrates above average written and oral communication skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and hospitality.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to prioritize and work well in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

  • Detail oriented - while still able to see the big picture so to implement systems and processes that support the vision and mission of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

  • Able to demonstrate high proficiency with technology including: telephone systems; church database management systems; website design platforms; social media forums, applications and tools; spreadsheets; G-suite products; Adobe, Canva and other design products; video conferencing technology (Zoom, FaceTime, Google Meet); bulk email tools such as Mailchimp.

  • Team player - has the ability to work within a team and receive feedback and direction.

  • Previous experience in church communications and operations is an asset.

  • Has the ability to connect, build and nurture a broad range of relationships.

  • Desires to contribute to, and be part of, a fun-filled, engaging work environment.

  • Has a heart for servant leadership - we lead by serving others.

  • Is a lifelong learner with a healthy curiosity to learn and grow.
